Creating more attainable housing doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes collaboration between nonprofits, local institutions, and community members all working toward a shared goal.

At Community Catalysts, we’ve seen firsthand how impactful these partnerships can be! One example is our ongoing collaboration with Lake Trust Credit Union, a mission-driven financial institution serving communities across Michigan, including right here in Livingston County.

In a recent interview, Amanda Huszti-Vickers, Assistant Vice President of Community Impact at Lake Trust, emphasized the importance of local financial institutions working directly with residents. Her message is simple but powerful: when banks are embedded in the communities they serve, they’re better positioned to help people navigate the path to homeownership.

This approach aligns with broader research. According to the Urban Institute, access to affordable lending, financial education, and community-based support systems plays a critical role in improving homeownership opportunities (especially for first-time buyers).

If you’re looking for a way to make a meaningful impact in Livingston County, volunteering with Community Catalysts is a powerful place to start! Whether you’re helping raise awareness, supporting local initiatives, or simply contributing your time and talents, you’re playing a role in expanding access to attainable housing.
